These Doors Open Architectural Tours bring visitors inside Bernard Maybeck’s celebrated First Church of Christ, Scientist in Berkeley. Rather than viewing the landmark only from the street, participants can study its inventive materials, craftsmanship, spatial drama, and hand-wrought details at close range—an unusually direct encounter with one of California’s great early twentieth-century architectural works.

It Takes an Angel is a night of song and musical improvisation arranged for a 14 piece chamber orchestra. Our ensemble consists of former students of Ben Goldberg, players in the UC Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, and members of the larger Bay Area free improvisation community.
The program will include free and instruction based improvisations by the large ensemble and songs arranged for guitar, voice, and smaller accompanying ensembles.
We hope to share the musical joy and togetherness that we've been cultivating during these months of rehearsal with you on the night of this special event.
