Preservation Needs Identified

For 97 years the church has stood in the heart of Berkeley,

but time and weather have taken their toll...

TOP PRIORITIES:	ROOFS AND SEISMIC WORK
	The primary damage in the l911 church is from
	leaky roofs. A new roof is “an immediate need.”
	Stopping the leaks in the hall next to the
	Fireplace Room is the most critical, as these leaks
	have caused rot and staining to the beams below.
	Recent temporary repairs have helped, but
	some leaks remain.
	A Roof Fund
	has been established to replace
	the leaking roofs in the Sunday School and for the seismic
	strengthening of the south Sunday School wall.
	Before we re-roof, we must have an engineering study to
	aid in the roof design. And then we need to proceed
	to re-roof the magnificent auditorium itself.

OTHER PRIORITY NEEDS:	• Seismic evaluation and repair,
	• repair of windows and doors,
	• repair of concrete spalling,
	• treatment and repair of some of the exterior wood,
	• code upgrades including ADA,
	are among the other priority preservation needs identified in the Historic
	Structure Report.
